Privacy Policy

Effective Date: September 15, 2026  ·  Last Updated: September 15, 2026

1. Introduction

Welcome to Snapfin ("we," "our," or "us"). We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how Snapfin collects, uses, discloses, and safeguards your information when you use our mobile application and website (collectively, the "Service"). Please read this policy carefully. By using Snapfin, you agree to the practices described herein.

If you do not agree with the terms of this Privacy Policy, please do not access or use the Service.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide

  • Account Information: Name, email address, username, and password when you create an account.
  • Profile Information: Optional details such as profile photo, fishing preferences, and location (state/region).
  • Catch Logs: Photos, species data, weight, length, location tags, and notes you voluntarily enter into your catch library.
  • Payment Information: Billing details for subscription purchases, processed securely through our third-party payment processor. We do not store full credit card numbers.
  • Communications: Messages you send us through support channels or feedback forms.

2.2 Information Collected Automatically

  • GPS and Location Data: With your permission, we collect precise GPS coordinates to provide real-time, location-specific keep/release fishing regulations. Location data is used solely to match you with applicable regulations and is not sold to third parties.
  • Photos and Camera Data: Photos you submit for AI fish identification are processed to identify the species. Images are transmitted to our AI processing systems and may be retained temporarily to improve model accuracy.
  • Device Information: Device type, operating system, app version, unique device identifiers, and crash logs.
  • Usage Data: Features used, pages visited, session duration, and interaction patterns within the app.
  • Log Data: IP address, browser type, timestamps, and referring URLs when accessing our website.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, operate, and maintain the Snapfin Service
  • Identify fish species from photos using AI processing
  • Deliver real-time GPS-based fishing regulations for your location
  • Store and display your personal catch library
  • Process subscription payments and manage billing
  • Send transactional emails (account confirmation, billing receipts)
  • Send promotional communications, with your consent (opt-out available at any time)
  • Improve the accuracy of our AI fish identification model
  • Detect and prevent fraudulent or unauthorized use
  • Comply with applicable laws and legal obligations

4. Location Data

Snapfin requests access to your device's precise location (GPS) to deliver accurate, jurisdiction-specific fishing regulations. Location data is:

  • Collected only when the app is actively in use (foreground) unless you grant background location access
  • Used exclusively to match your position with the applicable state and local fishing regulations database
  • Not sold, shared with advertisers, or used for behavioral profiling
  • Stored only as long as necessary to provide the regulation lookup feature

You may revoke location permissions at any time through your device settings. Disabling location access will limit certain features of the app.

5. AI Photo Processing

When you submit a photo for fish identification, the image is transmitted over an encrypted connection to our AI processing infrastructure. By submitting a photo, you grant Snapfin a limited license to process that image for the purpose of species identification and, in anonymized form, to improve our AI model's accuracy. We do not use your photos for advertising purposes and do not share identifiable images with third parties without your consent.

6. Sharing Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We may share data with:

  • Service Providers: Third-party vendors who assist in operating our Service (cloud hosting, payment processing, analytics, AI infrastructure), bound by confidentiality agreements.
  • Legal Compliance: When required by law, subpoena, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Snapfin, our users, or the public.
  • Business Transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your data may be transferred to the successor entity.
  • With Your Consent: For any other purpose with your explicit consent.

7. Children's Privacy (COPPA)

Snapfin is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The Service requires users to be at least 13 years of age to create an account. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child under 13 without verifiable parental consent, we will delete that information immediately.

If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at [email protected].

8. California Privacy Rights (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have the following rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA):

  • Right to Know: Request disclosure of the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you.

  • Right to Non-Discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of your CCPA rights.

To exercise your rights, contact us at [email protected]. We will respond within 45 days.

9. Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you with the Service. You may delete your account at any time through the app settings, which will result in deletion of your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.

10. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures including encryption in transit (TLS/HTTPS), encrypted data storage, and access controls. However, no method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

11. Third-Party Links

The Service may contain links to third-party websites or services. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those third parties and encourage you to review their privacy policies.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by updating the "Last Updated" date above and, where appropriate, by sending a notification through the app or via email. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
